I bought this yarn for a few more last-minute knits and really like the shading. Instead of ending up with clear stripes you get small slivers of the lights through the darks and vice versa. It's effective and reasonably priced - a good combination.
And we still have snow!

For hats, I like the pattern in Last Minute Knitted Gifts called "Kim's Hats" There are lots of variations and the suggested yarn is Manos which is so lovely - feels nice and has a zillion colours.
This one worked! I have that book so thanks for the pattern tip. I have been seeing a lot of the Manos yarn on ravelry, but haven't seen any in the shops I go to - something to investigate...
